Search diligently while on the Fermilab site, and you will come across a wide (and wild!) variety of frogs, newts, salamanders, snakes, toads and turtles. You may even see the occasional turtle on your drive across the site, taking its time as it plods across the road.
In 2014, Fermilab and a number of volunteers completed an extensive trapping and netting across a swath of wetlands and woodland ponds looking for amphibians and reptiles. The results pointed to a healthy and diverse animal population, and the lab continues to strengthen the distribution data for many known species across the site as we address questions about other rare or secretive species.
