Fermilab recognizes that its natural lands are a treasure, as have other organizations. The Fermilab Ecological Land Management Committee oversees and makes recommendations to facilitate the restoration of the available tracts of land. The U.S. Department of Energy designated Fermilab as a National Environmental Research Park. And the not-for-profit organization Fermilab Natural Areas is dedicated to restoring, managing and enhancing the natural areas and resources of Fermilab in order to maintain and improve their ecological health and biodiversity.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of people both in and outside the lab, Fermilab continues to be a 6,800-acre ecological jewel.
